We have now been in our new home just over 2 weeks...

In many ways it feels like coming home (certainly being part of a village is what I know - I grew up in one 40 miles from here). I've already had more conversations with our neighbours here than I ever had in over 6 years at the old house!! People are just SO friendly and welcoming :)

I have managed to unpack, and largely organize on shelves, ALL my books (no mean feat one-handed, I can tell you!); but boxes and crates scatter the hallway and kitchen still  - it's quite a hazardous expedition across the house on my unsteady feet...

And there are no pictures up on the blank walls ('That's the LAST thing on a very long to-do list!' according to my non-artistic hubby :/) And there are numerous glitches with doors (inner and outer), the central heating, the cooker, several windows... but I won't bore you with those!

I want to focus on ALL the good stuff...

The house itself is spacious and filled with light...

Morning light in the living room

... and the kitchen.

... AND surrounded by trees

I am woken each morning by birdsong (and the neighbours' geese :D), and I've had several excursions around the village on my trusty scooter...

... each time discovering something new and beautiful:

a majestic horse-chestnut outside the village hall (look at that twisted trunk!)

the village school

even a tiny wood between the school and the church!!

But my favourite discovery so far is this view - I've made it my screensaver - truly we've landed in a little piece of paradise!

I'll share more photos, and stories, over the coming weeks, which I'll gather on a new page 'Rectory Writings'. I just know this Autumn will be a richly fertile time, as I begin building a new life here with hubby, and we adjust to our new, soon to be empty, nest (E leaves for uni on 18th September...)

  2. I love the name for your new blog and the inspiration behind it, Claire ~ you are surrounded by beauty and light! My husband took early retirement in March (I was made redundant following an injury and illness in 2013) so we are getting to grips with big life~changes too. We love having all this free time together! Good luck in your new nest and in the lovely country village you've moved to! Now let's see if I'll be allowed to post this comment? (p.s. My Wordpress account has illegal characters, apparently, so I've dredged up my Google account password from the mists of time and hopefully this one will work!)

    1. Oh, how weird, it has linked to an ancient Blogger blog which I haven't used for aeons ~ I'm Jacqueline King of 'Wightrabbit' btw!

    2. Blogger really does do it's own thing, I'm afraid! But thank you for persevering, and yes, I've worked out who you are :D
Hubby requested early retirement this summer (he'll be 60 next year), but I confess, I'm relieved they refused - it just felt a change too far what with the move and the nest being emptied... I wanted at least something to remain the same x

  3. Great! I'll use this account for future comments. My husband had to retire for health reasons ~ and that has definitely improved, so he made the right decision. But I did have a few wobbles about it at first! :)

    1. I bet! It's definitely a big decision, but if work is affecting one's health, it's a pretty straightforward decision... Thankfully hubby's in fine fettle - and long may it continue :)

  4. Wow! It's a gorgeous place dear Claire, love all the green around, the air should be fresh and pure. I'm a little bit confused, is this a new blog space? Are you keeping both blogs?

    1. I am at the moment, Elizabeth. I wanted a whiter, less busy, space to chart this new phase in my life. I'll see how I manage two blogs...

    2. You are brave keeping both, I can't take care of one! I love "nest of mist" title, you have a great mind for titles. :)
